Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

slander

a former friend accused me of taking narcotics from her and claims she has my fingerprints on a box where she kept the medicine. She claims she took the box to the sheriff's dept. and had it fingerprinted. She has already caused problems for me with my family and has threatened to contact my employer. I have no kknowledge of how these narcotics disappeared and no law enforcement agencies have contacted me. My concern is that she may do more damage to my character with these accusations, and I feel powerless to do anything. Has she crossed any legal bounderies and if she follows thru contacting my employer what can I do? I want to know if I have grounds for a civil suite vs. her now, and assuming she does more damage concerning my job.

Re: slander

Based on what you've said, she hasn't done anything illegal. If she lies about you, and that lie costs you money (i.e. losing your job), you can sue her for defamation.

By the way, it's not agaisnt the law to steal illegal drugs, because illegal drugs have no value (they're illegal, therefore worthless). Of course, it is illegal to possess them and it would be petit theft to steal the box they were in. Weird how the law works sometimes.
