Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My son's father has been paying me the court ordered amount of $800.00 per month for child support. Recently, he quit his job and started his own company, meaning he is not making the money anymore. He missed his last payment and is worried he will be in trouble. He has asked me to write to the court saying that both parties agree to changing the amount to $400.00 per month. He has not seen our son in two years. However, if he doesn't have the money then he doesn't have it anf he will be in trouble. That is not going to make anyone happy. My question is do I comply with his request to change the amount? What about when he does start making money?

I wouldn't. He should seek court modification.
