Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Step Parents

I was curious just how common it was to have in the divorce agreement that when either of us remarry our children can't call the new spouse mom or dad. My husband wants to add this to our agreement and I think it is unheard of. I think the children decide that for themselves. Is it common to put in the agreement for most divorcing couples?

Re: Step Parents

I have never seen it myself. Remember as long as it is not illegal, if you put something into a contract and all sign it is there for keeps.

Best to simply not agree to it!

Re: Step Parents

Children of divorce calling their stepmother or stepfather "mom" or "dad" is now frowned upon. It is actually one of the factors sometimes used in evaluating which parent should get custody. So, although up until now, this clause may not have been included in many decrees, my guess is that it is going to become more common.
