You must file a petition with the Circuit Court and schedule a hearing with the judge.

You would need to file a petition with your local court. It's hard to answer this question without more details such as: 1. Who currently has custody? and 2. What state is your child currently residing in? Please give me a call at 1-800-408-5818 to discuss this further or you may email me at [email protected]

Filing for custody can be done by filing a Petition in court. If you are in the amidst of a divorce you can request custody within your divorce petition. If you are were never married you can do so by filing a Paternity Action. If you are the mother and have physical custody of the child you already have custody and if what you are seeking is child support. You can apply for child support through the department of Revenue.

Hope this helps. Best Wishes
