Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Can I stop change of name

I live in England and my children live in Florida with my ex-wife and new husband.Children are aged 7 and 8. I am allowed very little contact by phone and see the children once a year. They call my ex-wifes husband Dad and now she wants to add his name to theirs.Although I am keen to keep my relationship with the children going , their mother and new 'Dad' are not and continue to restrict calls. As i am in England and their mother has said the children have requested the name change because of school ,I am concerned about objecting and losing what little contact I have. What are my chances if I go to a non-jury trial.

This is not an uncommon problem with military noncustodians serving overseas. Your former spouse has no right to change the childrens names. period. I do suggest that you try to obtain a stateside assignment to allow for more in person contact. Telephone and write your kids every chance you get. Also get your family members, especially grandparents, to do the same.
