Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Support Lawsuit

My son has to file a response to a petition for child support. It must be written and given to the court by 6/20/07. He has a job earning $9 an hour and a temporary place to live. He has nothing. He left their home and took nothing but his clothes. What can he do? Does he need a lawyer? Can you help him? Is there a free public defender in cases like this?

Re: Support Lawsuit

He could contact legal aid who might provide free services. However he will be ordered to pay child support regardless of his income.

Re: Support Lawsuit

It sounds like he may qualify for legal aid or pro bono assistance. He can contact the local bar association or legal aid. In the alternative, he can contact the courthouse and see what can of help they offer people who are not represented. There should be someone there who can help him fill out an answer.
