Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

suspention of license.

I am a 50 yr old Father, I have been paying child support for 11 yrs, With Absolutely NO objection. As a matter of fact, I gave my X $60.00 Cash over and above my payment through payroll deduction. I help as much as I can, As she does me.

I work as an electrician, I just returned from New Mexico on Dec 16th, Fired on Dec 17th. I been with the Co. 3 yrs. In this trade, A valid drivers license is necessary to get from job site to job site, usually in a Co. supplied Vehicle. I filed for Unemployment benifits, but to date haven't heard anything. As Usual. I recieved the expected letter from child support enforcement giving thier notice to suspend my license and registration of all vehicles. The letter expresses a choice to petition the courts. It says it stops the process until the court enters a solution. The solution is QUITE plAIN, i NEED TO FIND A JOB. i AM MORE THAN WILLING TO PAY SUPPORT BUT IF MY LISENCE IS SUSPENDED, fINDING A JOB, TURNS INTO ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE.

I have 15 days to do this, and no clue as to how. My question to you is, is there any past cases where the courts actually agreed with the petitioner and granted RESONABLE time to get employment, without loosing the drivers license?

Thank You

Re: suspention of license.

All the time. File a motion to abate (temporarily stop) your child support until you get a new job. It's a very common motion, and you file it in the family law (child support) court. In the case of someone with your good payment history, you will almost certainly be given a break or at least more time to catch up on your support.
