Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Threatened with Alimony Law Suit

I live in California. My husband of 23 years has left my 16 year old son and me and moved to Florida. He has now threatened to sue me for alimony if I refuse to continue to pay for his auto insurance. He is currently unemployed. I am employed. He claims that he has contacted Florida Social Services and they have informed him that he can sue me for alimony, even though neither of us has filed for divorce. Under these circumstances, would it be feasible for him to win a suit for alimony from me?

Re: Threatened with Alimony Law Suit

In California spousal support is based on the amount of need for the supported spouse and the ability of the other spouse to pay child support. The cheapest approach for you maybe to pay his car insuance for a period of time. Courts use the computer program for setting child support to determine spousal support. Since you live in California that is where support motion must be obtained.
