Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Is it true that if there is no contact for 6 months a parent automatically loses rights? We live in Florida and his dad lives in Texas. We have not heard anything from him since November 23,2013.

That is not true. You have to file a petition to terminate parental rights and that has to be granted by a judge.
