Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
Unusual Adoption
My god daughter asked my wife and I do adopter her. She's 33 now. Her mother passed when she was in high school. Her father as denied her existence since her birth. She's called me Dad and considered me that, since she was 6 (her Mother and I were together then). We're basically looking to establish next of kin status and a name change. What may be involved to make this to happen.

Re: Unusual Adoption
Though adopting an adult isn't common, it isn't unusual, either. In fact, it's easier than adopting a child, since, in adopting a non-disabled adult, all parties consent. You should use a family lawyer, though, to ensure that the process is completed properly. Call me if you'd like me to help.
