Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

visitation rights for a non relative

For the last three years, I have been helping a friend raise her son. The natural father wanted nothing to do with his child. The child and I bonded at birth and have been together (as family) for over two years now. The father has reappeared and won rights for visitation. This has totally cut me out of the picture. I haven't seen the child in about three weeks now. Do I have any right to visitation? I was told that I could take the father to court and receive some of his visitation time, but only if I could prove that I was there for the entire time period. I need to know for sure.

Re: visitation rights for a non relative

Since you are not the biological parent you do not have any legal rights to visitation. How sad for you and the child since you were in the picture for three years and now you don't see each other. Why isn't your good friend allowing you visitation?
