Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

My wife asked for a divorce for over a year, in this time, I have provided proof of her hidden assets, extramarital affairs, stealing jewelry from her kids as she was left the house (general lack of interest in family). The week before the final court date, my lawyer says that she is more likely to win the case (specifically stating its because she can speak English fluently). He continued by saying that truth doesn't matter in court but how things are said. I sign the contract (meaning I settling out of court), feeling defeated. Now I realize that the amount I agree to was not the same he said before I signed the contract. I believe the lawyer did not have my best interest in mind. Why wait and tell me a week before the date after 1.5 years? HELP!!

If you feel the lawyer has not acted on your behalf you should file a bar complaint. And perhaps consult with other legal counsel. The fact that you don't speak English should not affect the outcome of your case at all.

Be sure to attend the hearing - take someone with you who speaks English. Relay to the court that you signed but did not understand what you were signing. This could be easily resolved had you had proper representation. I suggest you get another lawyer ASAP. From your facts stated I can not see why she is getting anything. You can file a complaint with the Florida Bar later, but right now you need to save what you can before you loose in court.
