Legal Question in Family Law in Florida
My wife and I are currently going through a divorce. We don't want to use attorneys and are trying to divide up our debts. She currently makes about 60% of our income and I make up the other 40%. I keep hearing that Florida is a 50-50 state. does that mean everything is split evenly or according to what is fair by income?

Not using attorneys in a divorce is usually something you'll regret for the rest of your life. Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. That aside, if you are coming to an agreement on how to divide assets and debts, you are not bound by the 50-50 rule. You can divide things any way the two of you see fit. If you can't agree, a judge will probably divide things 50-50, but you can avoid the judge's decision on how to divide things by coming to a written agreement.
