Legal Question in Family Law in Florida

Almost a year and still not divorced

I have a problem,I mean I guess it

is. I have had an attorney handling

my divorce, this has been since about Mar.07.My future ex has an

attorney.I've answered all that has

been required of me. My future ex

was served with the 3 month

mandatory in May, he never answered until he got a letter then

the answer came Oct.07. This

paperwork should have been the

the last financial discovery,before

the mediation date.I'm a little

upset and really don't know what

to expect from my lawyer.I've been married 27 yrs. my husband left me,

now he isn't doing what the laws

require.We have a retirement fund,

and land assets. My attorney should have filed a motion to compel shouldn't he?This is going

on for 7 months.Should I fire this

attorney for not staying on the

paperwork deadlines?I've never had to have an attorney before.

What should I expect? Can this cause me to lose anything I or

my 15 year old son are entitled to.

Like I said I've never been through

anything like this.I need some kind

of options that I may need to look at.Can I take action against my

attorney if he causes me to have

a financial life changing problem?

I paid this attorney to represent me,I just want justice and closure.

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

A contested divorce can take a year or more if the other party does not cooperate. Unfortunately, the calendars are often crowded and an attorney cannot always get a prompt hearing when one is desired.

You need to call your attorney and make an appointment to discuss all the questions you raised in this posting. It would be unfair for anyone to pass judgment on another attorney's performance without knowing all the facts.
