First, you should know that the employer must have 50 or more employees to be covered by the FMLA. Also, you must have worked for the employer for at least one year, including at least 1250 hours in the past year, to be eligible for coverage.
Second, there are two parts of the FMLA laws you need to know about. There is the original statute passed by Congress, and there is the set of regulations issued by the US DOL. The regulations give the more specific rules and will be more helpful to you. But they are complicated. Often there is more than one section that pertains to a particular issue, so read them carefully and thoroughly. You can call the DOL for help too.
In any case, you can find everything at www.dol.gov. On the left side, click on "workers", then click on "Family and Medical Leave Act". That will take you to a summary of the law. Then, on the right side, click on "Family and Medical Leave". That will take you to links for both the law and the regulations.
If you feel the need to hire an attorney, please call for a free consultation to review the matter.
Good luck.
