Legal Question in Medical Leave in Florida
Length of time FMLA is good for
Can a company you work for arbitrarily change the time and reasons for FMLA coverage? The place where I work told me that I have to recertify my FMLA every 30 days. And 3 dates where I had called in using the FMLA, they told me that those dates do not count toward FMLA. For me to have to recertify every 30 days means that I have to go back to the doctor's office and pay the fee for him to fill out paperwork. I had recertified myself in April, and was told it would only be good for 1 (one) day. Last night I was told that that day did not count for FMLA. It is very disturbing to find this out, but no one told me it till 2 months after I filled out paperwork for FMLA coverage for my husband who had surgery in August, and now his health is very bad. I don't know if I have coverage if I need to call in because of any medical problems he will have. Please help me.

You should check the Dept. of Labor website at www.dol.gov which has nformation on how the FMLA works. Also, you can call the Dept. of Labor in Tampa at 813-288-1242 with questions.
