Legal Question in Federal Tort Claims in Florida

Contract question

I signed a contract with an attorney based on a contingency fee plan. The attorney suggested I seek other counsel. I am scared to seek other counsel due to fees I may owe my current attorney. If the contract was signed by myself and the attorney but is undated is that a valid contract?

Re: Contract question

The absence of a daye does not invalidate the contrafct. As a general rule, however, where there is a contingency fee contract and the lawyer "fires: you, then he is not entitled to a fee. Where you "fire" him, though, you will owe a fee based on a principle called quantum Meruit. Ask your lawyer if his suggestion that you find a different lawyer means that he is discharging you and ask him to put it in writing. If he is not discharging you, either tell him to finish the representation or ask what his fee will be if you do find another lawyer. Ask him why you should find another lawyer if you have a contract with him.
