Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

need help

On 11/19/07, an underaged, unlicensed person not related to me but staying in my home temporarily, took my uninsured vehicle w/o permission and was in an accident which was his fault. Now, I have received a certified letter from a collection agency on behalf of Allstate insurance demanding $15,108.34 or else legal action will follow. What can I do? Can you suggest an attorney in my area to help me? I cannot afford to pay this and I also cannot afford to lose my driving privledges because of my job. Please help!!!

Re: need help

You may be up the creek here.

First, you were violating the law in owning a vehicle without insurance. You say that the person took your car without permission. The insurance company will say otherwise. What does the person who took the car say? He is ultimately responsible for the crash. Did he have insurance? If not, you can still sue him.

Did you report the car as stolen? Thought not. Hard to make the claim that the car was stolen, as you claim.
