After accepting an engagement ring whose property is it?

In my state Florida, after an engagement ring has been accepted who does the ring belong to?

If the marriage is called off who has the legal rights to the ring?

Was this a gift? No contracts were signed, just a falling out...can the gentleman legally demand the ring back?

If given in contemplation of marriage, and there is no marriage, it should be returned.
