Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

I had a few questions and I was hoping someone could answer them? Its about a housing type issue, anyway here's the issue..I had a few friends staying here, they moved out and left their 2 puppies here for a friend who didn't want them and wouldn't be here for another 2 weeks..He got here ended up keeping them, but didn't stay here, only for a week, week and a half maybe and completely stopped taking care of the puppies. So my girlfriend was the only way they were getting food and water, she got rid of them, which the other guy was planning to get rid of them anyway..My girlfriend was just the 1st to do so, and now the guy has filed a report to the cops and they are threatening to arrest my girlfriend if she don't get them back. The thing is she gave them to random people, and now we don't know what to do?

It would stun me if the police get involved. sounds to me like the friend abandoned the puppies. My guess is that it will blow over if you leave it be. If it does not, the issue is whether t5he puppies were abandoned or whether he was going and had indcated that he intended) to return for his property.
