Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

ex boyfriend shared a sex tape with friends

I just discovered that my ex shared a rivate video of us with his friends. I did not allow this and was promised it was destroyed. Is there anything I can do?

NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.

There is not much you can do to force your ex not to show it to anyone unless you are willing to take legal action. Generally, morality and common decency are enough to keep someone from sharing something that is private with others.

If you feel strongly enough, you can file with a court for an order to prohibit your ex from showing the video to others or perhaps to have to return it to you. This is similar to what celebrities do when a video becomes known. I would suggest that you consult an attorney to discuss your legal options. Unfortunately, taking legal action could become costly.

Mr. Jay is correct. We do this litigation, primarily regarding posting of images on adult websites, and it can be costly. But there are various ways to deal with this.
