Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Broken Engagement, Lost funds

My fiancee just recently broke our engagement after we had mutually spent tens of thousands of dollars to:

1.) Move her from Florida to Michigan, and both of us back to Florida. ( I left my well paid job with Ford Motor Company to get married to her-she said that she could'nt handle michigans cold weather.

P.S. I sold most of my property for pennies on the dollar (truck, furniture, tools- all easily worth $10,000) upon her promise that we would replace it when we got here.

2.) She led me to believe that upon moving to florida, we would buy a house together. She agreed to this, until we had moved. suddenly she backed out of buying our house together, instead demanding that we move into her condo, claiming that we could live there, and use our money to buy a motor home. (Once I was physically & financially committed, she backed out of the verbal commitments we had made).

3.) I spent approximately 8 thousand dollars for new furniture.

4.) I paid $2,500 to have the place painted.

5.) I did a great deal of work remodeling.

After doing all these things, she broke our engagement. What legal recourse do I have for this breach of promises made?

What other comp can I get in addition to the material things I spent on her condo?

I think you are out of luck. The courts just don't really get into disputes of the type you have described. What you paid for is yours. Take it and good riddence to her. I agree with David -- remember the lesson.

Take what you paid for and forget this con artist...but remember the lesson.
