Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Burglarized home

Recently my house was burglarized. A juvenile was arrested in conjunction, however all items are lost. My question is can I sue his parents to receive compensation for items taken/lost?

Re: Burglarized home

Florida law does not hold parents responsible for their kids in such situations, unless you can prove the kid did it in the past and the parents knew he was going to do it to you.

Best bet is previous advice.

You may not need to do so. A criminal order of restitution should be a part of the sentence, meaning that he will be on probation until he repays you for the value of items lost. There is also a fund to assist victims of crime. You may be able to make a claim to that fund.
