Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Changing your name

Can an individual change one's name for no other reason than just to do it? No marriage or adoption or trying to hide from anyone or anything like that.

If so, what's involved? Thanks.

Re: Changing your name

As long as there is no fraudulent intent or use of a different name, you can start calling yourself whatever you want. If you want to legally change your name, so you can use that new name on official documents (passport, driver's lisence, etcetera), you need a court to change your name. The process can be found in section 68.07, Florida Statutes.

You can read about it by going to the State of Florida's web site and then navigating to the statutes. go to:

www flsenate.gov/Statutes/

and click on the correct statute.
