Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

cONFUSED ABOUT WHAT TO DO ABOUT ENFORCING A COURT ORDER

My divorce was final in SC, the judge awarded me a order for my ex to reimbursement for expenses I had incurred. This is not alimony. My ex now lives in Florida. He was suppose to pay me $500 a month starting in August. He hasn't sent me the first check, and I don't expect one from him unless he is forced to. I have been advised by 3 attorneys different ways to handle this matter. (1) File a lawsuit against my ex in civil court. Then wait for the judge to pass a judgment. Then try to garnish his wages. (2) Have the judgment that was issued by the judge in South Carolina domesticated in the Florida Court where my ex lives. I can't afford to pay out thousands of more money to collect what is owed to me from my ex. I need someone to please help me, and tell me the cheapest, best way to get this done.

You should contact the Florida Bar Lawyer Referral Service to discuss this matter with a Florida Family Law attorney (You may even qualify as a low-income client). Generally, domesticating an out of state judgment is a good choice. However, your case may have specific issues that should be discussed with an attorney.
