Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Contract Dispute

I signed up for an internet lead generation service called Housevalues.com and agreed to a fee of $629.00 monthly for a minimum of 10 exclusive leads per month. It was told to me that each lead knew they were going to be contacted by a local realtor, this turned out not to be true. I spent countless hours doing ''free CMA's'' and sending follow-up e-mails and phone calls yet getting no business. After the first month, I began asking my sales rep to lower me to a smaller program because I wasn't getting any business from the service and had no income, only outpour. He repeatedly told me he would talk to his manager and get it done. I asked him to do this every month thereafter and it never got done. After month 4, I decided to cancel the service and wrote the company an e-mail stating various reasons for my cancellation. I was contacted and told that per my contract, I owed for the remaining 8 months at 50% of the contract rate. I asked them to not bill my credit card any longer and to send me an invoice so that I could pay. I never received the invoice and today got a call from a collection agency about the balance. What is my course of action so that this doesn't affect my credit? I have copies of the e-mails if needed.

Re: Contract Dispute

You may wish to contact the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Florida Attorney General and your local state attorneys office. The FTC and Attorney General's office have a complaint form on their webpage.

You should also contact a local consumer protection attorney and the better business bureau.
