Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
Co-signing a lease
I co-signed a lease for my ex-boyfriend because his credit was not good enough to do it on his own. I'm the primary, and he is the secondary. We broke up about a year ago and the lease is not up for another 6 months. In the past year, the leasing company has called me three times to let me know that the payment was past due. Now the car has been returned to me because he ''just doesn't want it anymore''. I need to turn it in, and will have to pay the remainder of the balance, which is $2,200. Do I have a case to take him to small claims court to be reimbursed?

Re: Co-signing a lease
Yes. If the original obligation was for his vehicle I believe that you have a valid claim against him. This should point our clearly why you should never co-sign or obligate yourself for another individual.
