My dog was kill by a pit bull in our condo complex while my husband was walking him. The pit bull was without a leash and the owner left his apartment five minutes later. What can I do?

You can sue the owner of the pit bull for the value of your dog, and any veterinary expenses that may have been reasonably incurred after the attack, if any. In Florida a pet is property (also called "chattle") and the only recovery you are entitled to is value of the animal.
You can also report the owner to Animal Control (hopefully that has already been done) who should issue a citation and could impound the dog.
