dopping a lawsuit

my lawyer quit on me, I need to know how to drop a lawsuit

without having to hire another lawyer to do it for me

If you are the plaintiff, all you have to do is file a Notice of Voluntary Dismissal providing that no counterclaim has been filed. If a counterclaim has been filed, it will go forward even if you dismiss your claim.

you can file a "notice of voluntary dismissal". just say:

I (name), pursuant to the applicable rules of civil procedure, volutarily dismiss the complaint filed against (name).

If you have not previously dismissed the suit and the statute of liitations has not run, you can, generally, refile the claim -- otherwise a future filing will be barred.
