Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
E-mail Harrassment
My ex-husband's best friend has been continually sending slanderous e-mails about me and my 22 yr old daughter. He sends these e-mails to our home and work e-mail addresses, he also sends them to a number of our family members and friends. I have ignored all of them hoping that he would get tired and stop, my daughter has responded and asked him to stop but to no avail. Is there anything I can do legally to make him stop?

Re: E-mail Harrassment
NOTE: This communication is not intended as and should not be interpreted as legal advice. Rather, it is intended solely as a general discussion of legal principles. You should not rely on or take action based on this communication without first presenting ALL relevant details to a competent attorney in your jurisdiction and then receiving the attorney's individualized advice for you. By reading the "Response" to your question or comment, you agree that the opinion expressed is not intended to, nor does it, create any attorney-client relationship, nor does it constitute legal advice to any person reviewing such information, nor will it be considered an attorney-client privileged communication. If you do not agree, then stop right here, and do not read any further.
In order to stop these unwanted communications, you may apply for a restraining order which is also called a stay away order with your local court. Generally these are used in cases when violence is an issue but courts have allowed the entry of an order to avoid continuing harassment from another.
