Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

''gifts''

My friend broke up w/ her fiancee of 5 years. She is leaving w/ nothing except the engagement ring. The ring is valued @ $9,000.00. Her ex- fiancee wants the ring back and said he will sue her for it. Can he actually win in court if he tried to sue her for the ring? It was a gift to her from him. Should she keep it or give it back? She can't afford mayor court fees. Thank you.

Re: ''gifts''

An engagement ring is generally considered a gift and therefore absent unusual circumstances, does not have to be returned. I do suggest that your friend meet with an attorney and discuss the specfics of her actual situation do obtain a formal answer.
