Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

grand son was with his paternal grmothers foster son at Sears. The foster son picked a merchandise to from the store and was caught before he was out of the store, now the store has a law firm who has sent a letter to gr.son's dad. FL Statues Section 772.11 a civil remedies act. The law firm is requesting that my grandson who is a minor pay $200 and the foster son has to pay the same amount. What should we do? And is this legal?

Yes, it is legal for them to request $200 as a civil remedy for theft. They may also pursue criminal charges.
