Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

I hired an attorney for some specific advice, I gave her a smal retainer because her work was based in simple things, and now she's sending me an invoice of thousands of dollars like if she had been working for ages. What I can do in these cases? how i can be protected?

Was there a written agreement for services? That is where you start. What was the task at hand? Minor work or major? What was your understanding? What was hers? Sit down and talk abou it. If you cannot reach an agreement, pay to see another attorney to see what he or she would charge for that assignment. If there is a significant difference, then someone is wrong.
