Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
I have a horse trailer, I left it at a ranch where my girlfriend kept her horse. The horse died and now lady won't give me my trailer. The police officer said its a civil matter and I need to sue her. Another officer says as long as I have the paperwork, it's mine and I can get it. I'd like to know if I can get my trailer or have to take her to court. Thank you

Self help would require you to trespass. You cannot and should not do that. You should seek legal help and file suit for return of the trailer. Be prepared for the charges she may have too for the horse it the trailer.
Did you put up the trailer as collateral to guarantee payment of the boarding charges? If not, there is no lien against the trailer and it is yours. You are entitled to retake possession of it, but you cannot legally commit a trespass or disturbance of the peace in the process of retaking possession . I would contact the local sheriff's office to see if they can assist. If not, you will need to file a legal proceeding to recover the trailer.
