Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

my invention was stolen by a man i met with

I was looking for a way to fianance my idea for a patent.

I met and spoke with a man here in san diego.

He and i met several times where he had an office and also promised help me all the way with my idea.

I have documented this idea for 6 years through mail.....Email.....And on my personal computer with the dates documented.

I have spoken about this idea only with two people......This man tyler and my supervisor ...Whom i used to work for.......

I was dealing with this man for two months and next thing i know he dissapears and i never heard from him again.

Three years later i see my idea in a store with a patent number dated 1999. In florida

You are assuming that this man is responsible for getting your idea patented, which may not be the case. Often different people independently come up with the same idea. However, even if the patent originated with someone else, it may be possible for you to assert your priority if you can prove that you developed the idea first.

What I have said here is a gross oversimplification of a complex process, but space limitations on the LawGuru site prevent me from explaining it in anything like the appropriate level of detail.

IF, IF, you can show the SD man is the patent holder, then you would be able to bring action against him. Check it out. If he is the holder, then a lawsuit might have a chance of reasonable settlement or verdict. You will have to deal with the fees/costs and risks/reward potential of such action.
