Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

i have an issue with a vehicle that i sold in october of 09 that i just recieved a lein on on may 25 2010 because the lady who bought it never registered it in her name and it was picked up on the side of the road now i am stuck with the tow bill. i dont know what to do the police station and a few other people say i dont have to pay it but the towing company says i have to and they already sold the vehicle back in january and got the money for it. Now they want paid again.
