Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Landlord property liability

My apartment was broken into two weeks ago and property was stolen. I suspect the managers son as he was living on the property at the the time of the incident. The son has a criminal record. Can I file a civil suit against the owner of the property if the boy is not bonded to work on the property?

Re: Landlord property liability

It is likely that there is some insurance that protects the landlord; however, his son is probably not an employee of the landlord and the landlord is not liable for his son's actions (unless he is under 18 or there are other circumstances).

If you suspect the son, confront the landlord and file a police report. Let the police do some investigation and see what happens.

Best of luck,
