Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

I lent a friend some money and they gave me a signed title for their vehicle. I also have a signed agreement, and now this person has not paid me back anything within the time specified on the agreement, and has disappeared with the vehicle. Can I go to the DMV and have the title put in my name and report the vehicle stolen?

By having the signed title to the vehicle and the agreement, you have the rights of ownership. Based on the fact that your friend fled without your permission, you can report the vehicle stolen to the police and have your name placed on the title. Be weary though that if your name is on the vehicle, you are responsible for everything that happens with the vehicle, accidents, etc.
