Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Am I liable to return gift money

Mother in-law sold her home and turned over all proceeds to my wife (her daughter) during closing. Mother in-law and daughter/son in-law purchased a new home together. Mother in-law signed a ''gift letter'' also for down payment.

Mother in-law got angry and moved out, now wants money back. All money is invested in the home. Are we liable to give her the money back?

Not if it was a true gift with no strings attached.
