Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

libel/slander suit

Do you have to show a monetary damage to file a libel/slander suit? A lawyer on behalf of his client wrote a letter to our banking institution that was false claiming that we did not want to pay him money. The lawyer also filed a lien against our property and bypassed our attorney and sent it directly to our bank. The lawyer also wrote a letter to a State investigative body that we initiated against his client. In that letter he made untrue statements about us which he knew were untrue and which he could not substantiate. He later made this letter public thur Discovery to all defendants we are suing. His client is also a defendant in this lawsuit. We do not want our good name trashed with very damaging statements that he knows are untrue and that he knows he can not substantiate. What is our recourse? File a libel/slander suit?
