what are my options

in Dec/Jan 2006/2007 we rented a vacation villa in florida near disney. while there our villa was broken into and we lost a substantial amount of cash and a few personal items including a laptop. It pretty much ruined this once in a lifetime family vacation. that night there was a number of villas on the road we were on broken into. The owner of the villa ,who owns 3 houses total, came out the night we got broken into and repaired the catch on the window temporarily and fixed it the next day with something stronger. They told us that thier other villas had security systems in them but they didnt feel that one needed it (they ordered one installed the day after we left). There was evidence that there was previous attempts at break ins at this house as the patio door had old pry marks on it.Because they felt bad they offered to let us stay at another time in the future for one week at no cost. We've tried to book this other week for next year. We either get the run around from them or they dont answer our emails. I have also caught them in several lies about whether or not they even own the houses anymore. I dont think they want to come through now..what r our options. Is it up to them to make sure the house is safe?

You could challenge them and demand a refund, but you might have to sue. I could send a demand letter for you. I'd need to do a little research first though.
