Ex owes me money from home remodel
My ex and I broke up as a result of his cheating and pushing me (I am 6 months pregnant). I left my great job and a full scholarship for grad school to move across the state to marry him. We were engaged, and we began remodeling his home. I put much of the remodel on my credit cards, with the verbal agreement that it would be paid immediately. The reason was the I was home taking care of all the contractors while he was at work. He was the bread winner, as I did not plan on getting a stable job until the baby came. He did pay back much of the money owed immediately as promised. This went on for about 3-4 months. Well, I obviously left him after he shoved me while I was pregnant, and he has still agreed to pay off the debt (verbally). However, for future reference, do you think I would have a case in small claims? Obviously, I would prefer to avoid this, but I'd like to know if it's an option. The balance of the debt owed is $9000. I have receipts, bank statements, and witnesses to the agreement.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Verbal agreements are always tough to prove. If you can, get him to put something in writing now.

I agree with Mr. Wagner. If your ex ends up enjoying the remodel, you would most likely get the money back from him in court, but you'd have to pay to litigate. So try to get this resolved short of litigation.
