Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Don't take my Pooch -Given a dog - Now original owner wants it back

Three weeks ago my wife was asked by a coworker if we would take their dog which had tried to bite their son.We agreed as long as it got along with our present pooch (which it does)since that time my wifes coworker has asked that the dog be returned to her so she can give it to her astranged boyfriend (who was with her when the dog was originally purchased and just found out that the dog was given to us)who has asked for the dog.I believe he was also a co-owner of the dog when he and she lived together.I have grown attached to this dog as has my other dog. There were no contracts or bills of sale made.Do I have to return the dog? Am I likely to win if this were to go to small claims

The pooch can only be given away by the rightful owner. The judge hearing your case must first decide if the donor had good title to the dog. If she did, you are the recipient of a valid gift.
