Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
I purchased nearly $7,000 worth of furniture through CitiFinancial in late 2005 for my new apartment. By 2007 I have paid approximately $3,000. After hurricane Wilma I was assessed an additional $2,000 by the HOA for damages. Shortly after that my mortgage payment went up drastically. At work we were told we could no longer work overtime. Later our work hours were cut to 32 a week and a few months later our salaries were cut 10 %. All this in addition to my weekly child support (Garnished) made it impossible for me to maintain my minimum payments. Facing the threat of foreclosure I contacted CitiFinancial to explain the severity of my situation, but a payment agreement could not be reached and my case was referred to a collection agency. For the past several years I have been harassed and threaten by law suits from different agencies demanding payment of over $1,500 above to what I owed. At one time I offered to return the merchandise but was told that was not an option. On another occasion trying to resolve this matter I was talked into agreeing to a monthly payment of $ 200 to be automatically deducted from my bank account. All I was able to accomplish was to get several overdraft fees and fall deeper into debt. I contacted the agency and requested to have my payments from being automatically withdrawn but was not able to convince them. No other agreement other than one lump sum payment could be negotiated so I closed my account.
After a few years of financial struggle I lost my apartment to foreclosure. I moved in with a friend who was willing to help until things got better but this hasnt happen yet. Now I find myself unemployed due to company re-structuring and relocation, Im trying not to loose my vehicle which is 3 months behind in payments. Im in communications trying to work out a temporary rate reduction. I do not have any other debt.credit cards, loans or anything else. I do not own anything.. No valuables, no possessions. Dont know what other options I have. I Cant afford to hire an attorney for guidance or representation. Is bankruptcy my only option?

If you want to get rid of that debt, the only way to legally do it is through bankruptcy.
