Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Rent quarrel

I moved out of an apartment because my roommates there were harassing me. I am still on the lease and they paid the entire rent. Now they want to take me to small claims to get the money I ''owe'' them for rent. Do they have grounds to take me to court?

Re: Rent quarrel

Yes they have grounds to take you to court. You may not have to pay them the full amount if you convince the judge that you were justified in leaving the premises, and depending on the facts surrounding your departure.

Since you were on the lease and never removed you are responsible for whatever portion of the rent you were supposed to pay. I would suggest you try to work it out without going to court. If they win you will probably have to pay their court costs. in addition to the back rent.
