Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

Repayment of money that was a gift

I would like to know if my ex can take me to court for repayment of money, even though it was given to me as a gift. Here is the story, back in October I needed $3,800 for my car and he offered to give me the money without having to pay him back. Now that we have split, he is asking for the money back or else he will take me to court. What are my options?

Re: Repayment of money that was a gift

If it was a gift, you do not owe him. If it was a loan -- you owe him. If nothing is in writing, it will be up to the judge to decide who is telling the truth.
