Unfortunately, you are being sued. You have 20 days from the day you received the complaint to file an answer or a Judge could enter a default and enter a judgment against you. That would be as if you lost the lawsuit without even having the opportunity to fight it. You need to file an answer admitting or denying the allegations in the complaint. Also, you need to list any affirmative defenses, which are the legal equivalent of "yes, but....." Importantly, if you do not list your affirmative defenses in your answer, you may lose the opportunity to ever assert them.
