Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida
A former roommate owes me money for past electric and cable bills. Both bills were in my name. Although we did not have a written agreement, there was a verbal agreement to each pay 1/3 of the bills (there was a 3rd roommate). I have previous bills proving that each of us paid 1/3 of each bill (bills always list payments received for the previous bill to which there are 3 payments of equal amounts showing). The last few bills show where there was only 1 payment received for the total amount which was my payment. I have copies of bills and cancelled checks to prove this all. Is it possible to take this issue to small claims court? Do I have a case? What would you suggest me to do?

You didn't say that you asked your former roommate for the money. Ask for the money first before you sue. Then, you can go to small claims court.
small claims is made to resolve these types of disputes.
If you cannot work it out yourself, then you can file in small claims. Check the website for the Clerk of Court in your area for the forms. Next time get it in writing and signed by your roommate. Regards,
