Out of state attorney

Can an attorney from one state represent a client from another state? I have a former tenant i am considering suing who lives in the state of florida. He has retained the services of an attorney in california- though the last know address of my tenant was in florida.

Yes -- although he will need to get the approval of the court to do so once suit is filed and a Florida attorney to serve as local counsel.
