Legal Question in Civil Litigation in Florida

stolen motorcycle

my friend had his motorcycle stolen about 1 year ago from the parking lot of the apartment complex. Someone in jail, that is currently talking to my friend about that very stolen motorcycle: timeframe, prior damage, brand and model, apartment complex, etc. What do we do? Inform the police officer on the theft report? Try to seek monetary recovery via the judge seeking restitution? Or is it just a civil suit to try to recover the money? What strategy is best to get the money to continue to make the payments on a bike that has been parted out?

You should immediately contact the police and advise them of the information. The police report may get amended with an addendum listing this information which should then be shared with your insurance company. If you are not insured, then you are on your own in getting payment.

You can file a civil suit, but if the party is encarcerated, you will probably never receive payment or have a low chance. It may or may not be worth the cost of filing suit.
